Tesco Hindustan to step up focus on analytics

Must Read

Tesco Hindustan Service Centre, the captive global services wing of the UK retailer Tesco, is stepping up focus on its analytics offering as it believes it plays a key role in a “recessionary environment.”

For the last nine months, the Bangalore-based Tesco HSC has been building a dedicated analytics team to deliver insight into what customers want, pricing analysis vis-À-vis competition, stock movement in a store, and ways to improve operational efficiency.

According to Mr Sandeep Dhar, CEO, Tesco HSC, analytics help retailers get an understanding of what delivers value to customers and also help improve operational efficiency. Incidentally, Tesco reported a 12.6 per cent jump in group sales for the first quarter this year.
Hiring mode

While earlier analytics were embedded in the various processes at Tesco HSC, the company now has a focussed 50-member team to handle this function given its increasing importance. Tesco HSC is looking to expand its analytics team. “We will hire two dozen people this financial year and add more as the company expands,” says Mr Dhar.

Tesco HSC (which follows a March-February financial year) will ramp up its headcount from 3,500 now to 4,000 by the end of this year.

Apart from hiring statisticians and MBAs for its analytics team, Tesco HSC will also hire freshers and supervisors at various levels for its other processes. “We will also hire architects and civil engineers for virtually designing Tesco stores worldwide,” says Mr Dhar.

Tesco HSC is also looking to offer infrastructure management services to Tesco Personal Finance, the consumer finance business of Tesco. This will involve support services for retail banking processes such as insurance, deposits and credit cards.
