After over a year of its showcase during the Auto Expo 2008 in the national capital, Tata Motors has launched the much awaited people’s car Nano in Mumbai. Further, the company plans to launch the car for the European and US markets by 2011.

On the occassion, Ratan Tata, chairman, Tata Group, said, “At the moment, we are entirely concentrating on the Indian market. However, we plan to launch a European version of Nano by 2011.”

“It would not be a USD 2,000 or USD 3,000 vehicle, but it will encompass all the features required as per European regulations. It would also have a more powerful engine and comply with all the emission norms applicable in Europe,” he added.

Besides company operated 30,000 dealers’ network, booking is open at two of Tata’s retail formats — Westside and Croma, which will also display the car.
