The coveted Coca-Cola Golden Spoon Awards 2009

It is one of the most eagerly anticipated awards of the food industry. The first day of the Food Forum India 2009 concluded with the Coca-Cola Golden Spoon Awards 2009, given in recognition of excellence in food retailing in India.

While Haldiram’s bagged the most admired food & beverages retailer of the year in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) – Indian origin this year, the most admired F&B retailer of the year in the QSR – foreign origin went to Pizza Hut.

The award honoured 12 most admired retailers in different categories and two food professionals for their excellence in the business of food in the country.

Here goes the complete list of the awards in the different categories:

· Haldiram’s: Most admired F&B retailer of the year – QSR, Indian origin. Other nominees in the ‘Most Admired F&B Retailer of the year: QSR — Indian origin’ category were Jumbo King Vada Pao, Bikanerwala, Nirula’s, Yo! China and Street Foods of India.

· Pizza Hut: Most admired F&B retailer of the year – QSR, foreign origin. Other nominees in the category were McDonald’s, Subway, Dominos and KFC.

· Café Coffee Day: Most admired F&B retailer of the year – cafes & parlours. Other nominees in the category were Barista, Costa Cofee, Baskin Robbins and Gellato Italiano.

· Mainland China: Most admired F&B retailer of the year – dine-in, Indian origin. Other nominees in the category were Moti Mahal, Little Italy, Bombay Blue and Sahib Sindh Sultan.

· Sagar Ratna: Most admired F&B retailer of the year – value. Other nominees in the category were Rajdhani Thali, Comesum and Sarvana Bhavan.

· Olive Bar and Kitchen: Most admired restaurant of the year – premium. Other nominees in the category were Shiro, Diva, Indigo and Salt Water & Grill.

· Blue Foods: Most admired restaurant group of the year. Other nominees in the category were BJN Group, Speciality Restaurants, Kwality Group, Yum Restaurants and Lite Bite Foods.

· Spencers: Most admired F&G retailer of the year – convenience / express format. Other nominees in the category were In & Out, More, Reliance Fresh, KB’s Fair Price and Le Millennia Supermart.

· Food Bazaar: Most admired F&G retailer of the year – large format. Other nominees in the category were Spencer’s, Spar, Star Bazaar and Hypercity.

· Spoon: Most admired food court of the year. Other nominees in the category were Transit (Prestige Group), Food Union, Food Talk and Inorbit.

· Gourmet City: Most admired food retailer of the year – innovative retail concept. Other nominees in the category were Falafel, Navdanya, Bread & More, Republic of Chicken and
Chat Street (Mx Food).

· Q Mart: Most admired progressive food retailer of the year. Other nominees in the category were Le Marche, Nature’s Basket, Nuts n Spices, Dorabjees and Thom’s Bakery & Supermarket.

· Amit Burman, vice chairman, Dabur India: Most admired food professional of the year – food & beverage services. Other nominees in the category were Niren Chaudhary of Yum Restaurants, Anjan Chatterjee of Speciality Restaurants and Sunil Kapur, Blue Foods.

· Sadashiv Nayak, president, Food Bazaar: Most admired food professional of the year – F&G retail. Other nominees in the category were BVK Raju, Q-Mart, K Radhakrishnan, Reliance Retail and
Viney Singh, Spar.

The Coca-Cola Golden Spoon Awards 2009 winners are decided on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of votes from consumers through a pan-India survey in seven leading metros and from industry experts in the field of food and beverage and food and grocery retailing.
