Late in 2008, Major Brands India had announced plans to open 68 new stores in major cities of India by 2009 with a further investment of Rs 50 crore. The company has said that it would go ahead with its plan despite the current slowdown.

“As planned, Major Brands will continue with its expansion in various cities of India. By end of 2009, Major Brands will have 50 stores and by the end of 2010, it will have a total of 100 stores inclusive of all brands,” said Kamal Kotak, director, Major Brands to IndiaRetailing.

Commenting on the footfalls at the company outlets, Kotak said, “There has been no decrease in footfalls across our brands. All brands have performed well and as compared to last year’s figures, our sales figures this year have gone up by 15 – 20 per cent.

“Yes, we have done various marketing and promotional activities to help sustain the desired walk-ins,” he further added.

Disclosing plans to add more brands to its offering, Kotak revealed, “We are soon going to be launching an in-house footwear brand. The process for the same has begun and we will launch the brand by the end of 2009.”

“In terms of new brands to be added to our portfolio, we are in the process of getting a kidswear brand, menswear brand and young fashionwear brand (apparel). These three new brands will be launched in the spring of 2010,” concluded Kotak.
