US-based employees-owned supermarket chain Publix Super Markets is all set to launch its 1,000th store in St Augustine on February 5.
Moreover, Publix recently purchased 49 stores from grocery store chain, Albertson, many of which are reopening as Publix supermarkets. There are at least 714 Publix stores in Florida, where the company accounts for about 40 per cent of the grocery market, according to figures from the Nielsen Co.’s Trade Dimensions unit.
The company was founded in 1930 in Winter Haven by the late George Jenkins. Publix also has stores in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
