HIL signs an MoU with Gujarat govt; to set up agro processing unit

In a major development in the company’s initiative to strengthen its food processing industry, Himalya International Ltd (HIL), a Himachal Pradesh-based food processing major, has signed an MoU with the government of Gujarat at the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2009. As part of the deal, the government will provide around 100 acres of land to HIL to set up an agro processing unit in Mehsana district, according to a company press release.

The proposed plant will produce specialty milk products with prime focus on mozarella sticks and other premium variety of specialty Italian cheeses. HIL will also process mushrooms, frozen food appetisers including spanish onions, jalapanoes and seedless egg plant.

The project is expected to commence commercial production in the later half of 2010. HIL will invest Rs 1,400 million for the particular land besides other investment, added the release.
