Planet Sports to open 5 more stores by June’09

Moving on to carry forward its pan-India presence, sports lifestyle retail chain Planet Sports plans to launch five more multi-branded outlets by June 2009. The company is also in talks with two to three major global brands for tie-ups to increase its sports products offerings, revealed a top company official.

Speaking to IndiaRetailing, Ravdeep Singh, CEO, Planet Sports, said, “We have always got remarkable response from our consumers. So by the end of financial year we plan to launch five more outlets across the country till June 2009. We are also in talks with two to three major global sports brand for alliance to heighten our branded product offerings.”

Planet Sports is a speciality store and has 60 outlets across India. It offers a collection of international sports and lifestyle brands such as Callaway, Wilson, Converse, Speedo, Prince, Reebok, Nike, Adidas, Spalding and Puma to name a few. The company also has a marketing tie-up with international tennis ball brand, Wilson, the official sponsor of All India Tennis Association (AITA) events. Recently, the brand has announced its presence at Chennai Open 2009 through Wilson US Open Ball, as official ball sponsor.

Commenting further, Singh said, “We are committed to bring the best and latest technologically advanced sports and lifestyle brand to India. Tennis is an emerging sport in India and through Wilson we believe to meet the demands of consumers.”

Wilson product categories are present in 300 stores across India through Planet Sports, Pantaloon, Central, Hyper City and various Planet Sports lead distribution channels. “The brand has plans to open exclusive outlets in India soon,” concluded Singh.
