GKB Opticals to strenthen pan-India presence

GKB Opticals, one of country’s leading ophthalmic lenses producer and eyewear retailer, has opened Kolkata’s 11th store at Gurusaday Road. The latest launch is chain’s 46th store in the country. Spread across 2,700 square feet of retail space, the store stocks GKB’s own brands and international brands including Rodenstock, Porsche Design, Tag Huer and Gucci.

The company has invested around Rs 15 million for opening the store and targets a turnover of Rs 650 million from its entire operation including Rs 36 million from this store by March 2009.

Speaking to Indiaretailing, Shubhojit Pakrasi, assistant general manager —operation, GKB Opticals, said, “We expect tunrover of around Rs 3.6 crore (36 million) from the store and a total turnover of Rs 65 crore (650 million) from our entire business by March 2009.”

“We have signed in 16 properties for opening stores by 2010. We will open two stores, one each in Poduchery and DLF mall at Saket soon,” added Pakrasi.

Commenting on market recession, Pakrasi further said, “Certainly we have seen an impact on our business and as part of precautionary measures, we are very careful about our expansion.”

GKB Opticals is operational across the country with presence prominently in cities including Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabd, Jaipur and NCR.
