Kapsons, one of India’s apparel retailers, has opened a store in Patiala. Spread across four floors with a carpet area of 14,000 square feet of retail space, the store is the chains 10th outlet running across the region in cities including Chandigarh, Jalandhar , Amritsar , Ludhiana , Bhatinda and Jammu.

Speaking to Indiaretailing, Vipin Kapoor, director, Kapsons Group, said, “It is a very international standard store. Here we have brands like Tommy, Levis, Pepe, Wrangler, Spykar, Numero Uno, Puma, which are popular and premium brands in India and are stored almost in shop-in-shop format. So, in our stores, customers will get both premium and popular brands.”

Elaborating the retail scope in Patiala, Kapoor further said, “Patiala is an upcoming market and the surrounding area is very rich. Lot of strength comes from the radius of around 30 kilometers surrounding the city, which helps the city to grow very well. The young customer base is also very strong as various educational institutions including Punjab University are located here.”

The new store also promises to take profit from the demography of the region. “Patiala is a city with a population of around 8 lakh people and lot of kids are there and the segment is very lucrative. We have launched a dedicated floor here in Patiala branded ‘Kapkids Kapsons Junior’. The floor is uniquely designed to give motherly comfort to the kids and relaxing experience to their wards while shopping for the mothers,” added Kapoor.

Commenting on Kapsons’ expansion plan, Kapoor pointed, “We are still trying to enter markets like Patiala which do not have any prominent player but really need such kind of stores. We want to cover up Punjab first and and will then move outside. We will start from the north Indian market and will move to other regions, which may be after 2010.”
