A day after Diwali brought little cheers for investors. The 30-share benchmark index, Sensex, opened on a positive note on Wednesday, after posting a steep gain of 519 points during the traditional one-hour trading on Diwali yesterday.
The sensitive index of the BSE opened higher at 9,297 points, against the previous close at 9,008. With extreme volatility, Sensex ended at 9044, up 36 points. The fifty-share Nifty shut shop at 2697, up 12 points.
Meanwhile, BSE Midcap index lost 2 per cent and BSE Smallcap index, one per cent. Metal and oil & gas stocks saw good buying coming in, whereas realty, pharma and FMCG stocks witnessed selling pressure. While the top gainers at Sensex today were Hindalco, Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro and ACC; Reliance Communications, Ranbaxy, DLF and Satyam Computer featured among top losers.
