Big Bazaar targets Rs 130 billion turnover by 2010

Big Bazaar, the retail arm of Kishore Biyani-led Future Group, eyes annual turnover of Rs 130 billion by 2010-11. This will be in conjugation with countrywide expansion of Big Bazaar stores’ to 300 mark.

Elaborating the future plans, Rajan Malhotra, chief executive officer, Big Bazaar, said, “We are targeting a turnover of Rs 50 billion this year and have plans for reaching a figure of Rs 130 billion by 2010-11 fiscal.”

“We started with our first store in October 2001 and have now crossed the hundred mark with three new stores opened in Pune, Cuttack and Delhi. Our plan is to increase the number of our stores to 300 by end of the 2010-11 fiscal,” added Malhotra.

According to Malhotra, by end of company’s fiscal in June 2009, the company would take its total number of stores to 135 from current 100.

The company also aims to achieve to 140 million footfalls this year, up from its 110 million last financial year.
