German firm defers West Bengal entry

Must Read

After a thorough meeting with the West Bengal chief minister and the agricultural marketing minister, German wholesaler Metro Cash and Carry has deferred taking decision about its project in the state.

Speaking to media, Martin Dlouhy, managing director, Indian subsidiary of Metro Cash and Carry, said, “We had an encouraging meeting with both the leaders and they have requested us to wait till September 29 for the government’s decision on the re-issuance of the agricultural produce marketing committee licence.”

“We have agreed to honour this request though we are keeping all our options open,” added Dlouhy.

He further said, “We will be very disappointed if the state agricultural marketing board does not re-issue the licence to Metro.”

At present, Metro Cash and Carry is operational in four locations in India – two in Bangalore, and one each in Hyderabad and Mumbai.
