Consumerfed plans three-tier format, start 175 outlets in three years

To combat the big brand retailers planning an entry in the retail sector in Kerala, the Kerala State Cooperative Consumers Federation Ltd (Consumerfed) has planned a three-tier format of stores for villages, small towns and mega cities and will open around 175 outlets in Kerala in the next three years.

Branded as ‘Triveni’, these stores will retail about 2000 to 2500 products including FMCG, consumer durables and wellness. Of these 175 stores, 100 will be located in villages and the company will invest around Rs 175 crore within the next three years in this project.

Elaborating the plan and format of the stores, Dr. Riji G Nair, managing director, Consumerfed, said, “The stores in villages are branded as ‘Little Triveni’ and will be spread over an approximate area of 800 to 1000 square feet, where as ‘Triveni Super Marts’ will be set up in towns over 1000 to 2000 square feet area.”

He further added, “Our big format store for major cities is ‘Triveni Mega Marts’, which will be spread over 2000 to 5000 square feet area, and the first store of this kind to be operational in the next two months is at Punalur area of Kollam in Kerala.
