Bharti, IBM tie up in IT infrastructure deal

In a bid to enhance business and customer service efficiencies, Bharti Retail, a subsidiary of Bharti Enterprises, has entered into a strategic tie-up with IBM India.

With this new development, IBM India will provide a comprehensive IT infrastructure for Bharti Retail to give an edge over its competitors in this dynamic and competitive retail market.

Announcing this, Vinod Sawhny, president and chief operating officer, Bharti Retail Ltd, said, “This is purely in sync with company’s plan to bring technological innovation in a dynamic and fast evolving retail sector where Bharti Retail’s association with IBM will provide a distinct competitive edge that will assist the company’s vision and growth plan. This alliance is in line with Bharti Retail’s effort to become a customer-centric and trusted retailer. ”

“As per the company’s plans, the scope of the deal includes project management, infrastructure for data centres, applications, security and network, and support for end user services. Also, Bharti Retail will draw upon IBM’s global expertise and innovations in programming that include automated attendance terminals to maintain a very low PC footprint,” Sawhny added.

Commenting on this development, Ashish Kumar, vice president, client services, IBM, said, “This is a strategic win for IBM, which is a testament to the trust Bharti places in IBM’s cross-industry capabilities.”

“Our goal is to provide Bharti Retail the support it needs to be a customer-focused retail enterprise committed to delivering high value to its customers,” he added.

Under this tie-up, Bharti Retail and IBM will work together for 10 years and are committed to bring innovation in the retail sector.
