DU starts certificate course on retail

Must Read

The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has joined hands with Delhi University to provide industry-endorsed professional skills in the three high-growth segments of retail, information technology and automotives. The commencing date for the first course on retail sector is July 7, 2008.

For each of the segment, there will be a six-month certificate course, under the aegis of the School of Open Learning, DU. It seeks to enhance the skills of the students undergoing the course, as they prepare to launch their career. Speaking to Indiaretailing, a spokesperson for CII said that the three courses are separate and meant for career seekers in these respective high-growth sectors.

The course curriculum has been developed in consultation with industry and will be delivered using advanced methodologies including case studies, interaction with domain experts, case simulation and real-life, hands-on experience through a two-month internship programme with the industry.

Regular classes will be held for these courses at the Keshavpuram centre of DU. The centre is equipped with computer labs, and specific labs for the retail and automotive sectors are also being developed. According to CII, the response to the programme has been overwhelming with more than 200 students applying for the courses.

It may be pointed out that in the wake of the boom in the retail sector in India, the availability of skilled workers has been a major challenge for the industry.
