RDB launches second store, plans multiplexes

Kolkata-based RDB Group, which operates Regent Station stores, has launched its second outlet at Haldia, West Bengal. Spread across 40,000 square feet, the store offers fashion brands and FMCG products. The outlet also houses a food court and a kid’s entertainment zone from Timbaktoo.

Build with an investment of around four crore rupees, the store’s catchment areas include Mednapur, Digha, Nandigram and Mecheda, while its target audiences are the middle and upper middle income consumers in the industrial belt of Haldia.

The group is concentrating on the West Bengal markets and will soon launch an outlet in Bolepur followed by three more outlets at Haathibagan, Dum Dum and T Road respectively. The Group plans to launch about 80,000 square feet store at Behala, which is expected to be its largest store and will retail an in-house brand of consumer electronics.

At present, the Group’s total retail space stands at 118,000 square feet, and is expected to be around 300,000 square feet by the end of 2008. For expansions in 2008, the company has earmarked Rs 200 crore.

RDB group is also planning to start a chain of multiplexes by the end of 2009 under the brand name Regent Cinemas. Each multiplex will have two auditoriums, each with a capacity of 125 seats.
Investment on each multiplex is projected to be around Rs 58 lakh. The company is aiming to register a turnover of Rs 100 crore for the next fiscal.
