Come March, and India will see the launch of the country’s largest intimatewear factory. Triumph, the Germany-based lingerie maker, will formally open its 4.00,000 square feet manufacturing facility in Chennai.

Thorsten Allenstein, managing director and country head, Triumph, in an exclusive disclosure to Indiaretailing said that the plant will be fully operational from March and will be producing about 30 million pieces per annum.

Though majority of the produce from the facility will be exported, the unit will add thrust to the developing intimatewear market in the country as the brand, for near future, has major expansion plans for the domestic market.

According to the Images Technopak research 2006, the premium lingerie segment has seen value appreciation between 36 per cent and 51 per cent. The report further reads that the lingerie market that occupies 4.5 per cent of the total apparel market is growing at an annual rate of 20 per cent.
