Hasbro will beef up South-side strength

Must Read

Hasbro Clothing, the Chennai-based apparel firm, plans to increase its retail presence in Karnataka by opening 32 stores next fiscal. Bengaluru alone is expected to have 13 more exclusive outlets. Gulbarga, Davangere and Hassan are some of the other towns where Hasbro outlets will be opened.

“Karnataka is witnessing a higher consumer spending. We intend to open stores (1,000 square feet each) in Bengaluru, Mysore, Belgaum, Hubli and a number of emerging cosmopolitan towns like Manipal. We will continue to focus on the South for growth. The four southern states together generate 85 per cent of our business,” said Hanif Sattar, director, Hasbro Clothing.

Genesis, Basics and Probase are the menswear brands that are marketed by the company. Currently, the company has 34 outlets across the four southern states and some northern and western cities, including two exclusive outlets, in Bengaluru. Its products are available through 600 multi-brand outlets, including Lifestyle and Globus, in South India.

Sri Lanka, Maldives and the West Asian countries are some of the other markets that Hasbro has a presence in. According to Sattar, foreign operations account for close to 8 per cent of their total sales.

Hasbro’s apparel production unit in Chennai, where up to 1.2 million pieces of shirts, trousers and non-apparel accessories are manufactured, meets about 40 per cent of their requirements; the rest are sourced from other manufacturers all over the country.

In the coming years, Hasbro plans to launch new product categories including denims and accessories.
