The North East Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) based in Guwahati, Assam, has harnessed Israeli expertise for the development of agriculture in the northeast region of India.

The NEDFi brought in Isareli experts who had mastered the art of increasing food grain production under adverse circumstances, and a training programme is being organised on Post-Harvest Technology in Agriculture by the NEDFi in collaboration with the Centre for International Cooperation, ministry of foreign affairs, government of Israel.

The aim of the training programme will be to train experts in the field of agriculture about developments in post-harvest technology for using it in the context of the northeast, said SK Barua of NEDFi.

”In recent years, Israel has made tremendous progress in the field of agriculture. Their expertise is now sought by countries all over the world for improving their own agricultural production. The NEDFi’s endeavour to bring in Israeli expertise for the benefit of NE agriculturists is going to bear fruit soon,” he added.

Israel faces the problem of water scarcity, while the whole of northeastern India has to cope with the flood problem, which leaves a trail of devastation.

The programme will be conducted in two batches, comprising 20 participants each, representing all the eight states in the northeast. The programme for the first batch started on November 12 at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati.

It is specially designed for the academic and research staff of universities and agricultural research institutions, and other concerned functionaries in all the northeast states.
