Retail sales of cars up in China

The Retail sales of passenger cars in China’s domestic market — excluding exports — rose 21.3 per cent year-on-year to 490,474 units in October, according to Union of National Passenger Cars Market Information.

The industry association said in a statement that total output for the month was up 27.5 per cent from a year earlier at 522,108 units.

In the first 10 months, domestic sales of passenger vehicles including sedans, sport-utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles, increased 22.1 per cent year-on-year to 4.86 million units while output grew 22.7 per cent to around 5.12 million, according to industry association.

FAW VW, one of Volkswagen’s two local car joint ventures in China, was the top sedan maker in October, leading the market with sales of 38,841 units, said the association, without providing comparative figures.

General Motors flagship car joint venture in China — Shanghai GM — was in second place with sales of 36,113 units, while Shanghai VW, Volkswagen’s other joint venture, followed with sales of 32,649 units.
