Textile days India in Mumbai

Must Read

Textile happens to be India’s second largest industry after agriculture, and this well explains the interest of international players in holding various textile fairs in the country. Commencing its second consecutive textile exhibition in India, “Textile days India,” the combination of three major brands – Heimtextil India, Texworld India and Techtextil India – is being organised in Mumbai by Messe Frankfurt from Germany. Starting today, the event will continue until October 13, 2007.

Commenting on the event, Shammi Nagpal, managing director of Messe Frankfurt India, said, “We have great expectations from this exhibition and are confident of providing a boost to the textile industry in India, particularly the area of technical textiles. The Indian industry is ready for business in almost every sector and our fairs will provide the right impulses and influences they need at this hour. With a combination of individual fairs that focus on home, apparel and technical textiles, the entire textile industry benefits from such a meeting point.”

The textile sector in India is believed to be India’s largest foreign exchange earner, accounting for 35 per cent of the gross export earnings in trade. The total size of the apparel and home textile markets in India is close to $47 billion; by 2010, the market size is expected to grow to $95 billion. India’s market share in world textiles trade is poised to grow from 3 per cent to 6 per cent.

Sharing details with regard to the response received for the exhibition organised last year, Nagpal said, “In 2006, the interesting combination of two fairs on home textiles and apparel fabrics saw stable visitor numbers at 12,456, from nations like Italy, Spain, the United States, Germany, France, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and the Far East. A total of 318 exhibitors from 15 nations showcased their products and conducted business. With Techtextil India, both exhibitor and visitor levels are expected to increase.”
