    , the French retailing giant, has put on hold its plans to enter India due to increasing political resistance here. The retailer has made it clear that it won’t enter India till the policy in the retail sector is made unambiguous.

    The company is waiting for the report of the Icrier study commissioned by DIPP, on the effects of corporate retailing on small retailers. Carrefour is also waiting for the Bharti- vs. Government of India tangle to resolve. It was said that the retailer had chosen its Indian partner and was about to announce its name in coming weeks. When contacted by indiaretailing.com the Carrefour India head Mr. Gerard Freiszmuth, was not avaliable for comment, but sources have confirmed the development.
