Starbucks targets Russia through Kuwaiti retailer

Russian economy has come a long way and is in its ninth consecutive year of growth. Eyeing this opportunity US based coffee-shop chain Starbucks Corp. has planned to enter Russia through M.H. Alshaya Co., a Kuwaiti retailer. The company has plans to open 10 Russian stores this year. Its first stores will roll out in Moscow and St. Petersburg by the month of August 2007. The expansion plans will be reviewed every six months.

Starbucks has under taken an aggressive expansion plan to add 2,400 stores this year, the most ever. The Seattle-based company aims to more than triple its stores to 40,000 worldwide as it expands in fast-growing markets such as China, Brazil and India and tries to outpace Dunkin’ Donuts Inc.
