World Retail Congress

The first annual World Retail Congress is scheduled for the 28-30 March 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. The three day event will bring together the world's leading retailers to address and debate the key issues. The Congress will focus on the most crucial areas currently affecting the retail industry, ranging from the global economy and emerging markets to the continued development of talented professionals working in the sector. 


The top tier roll call of senior retailers and other industry representatives includes Eric Broussard, Vice President, Amazon Services Europe; Mohamed Alshaya, Chief Executive Officer, Alshaya Group; Ian Cheshire, CEO, B&Q; José Luis Duran, CEO, Carrefour;   Terry Lundgren, President, Chairman and CEO, Federated Department Stores; Joseph Wan, CEO, Harvey Nichols; Anders Dahlvig, President and CEO, Ikea Group; and Sir Terry Leahy, CEO, Tesco.   


In addition to the main plenary sessions, the Congress will also feature business streams dedicated to key retail topics such as: responsible retailing; franchising and licensing; consumer trends; multi-channel retailing; retail supply chain and the role of private equity in global retailing. There will also be dedicated sessions to the opportunities and challenges of the emerging markets such as the Middle East, India and China, and key business critical issues, such as finance, legislation and property and store design.  


The World Retail Congress will also host first ever awards celebrating global retail excellence in 12 categories. The World Retail Awards are designed to recognise and promote genuine innovation and creativity across all the key areas of retail skills and operations.
