- Are you utilising technology to better manage your workforce and optimise scheduling?
Production planning and detailed scheduling is a specific module within our core ERP. However, this can only be effective if an organisation has the capability to look at its planning needs in different time horizons, where the granularity also differs. - Approximately how much budget have you allocated to technology implementation and operation?
This is confidential information and cannot be divulged without necessary approvals from appropriate authorities in the organisation. - Which technology modules are you using? What are the advantages you have had? Are there any bottlenecks you are facing?
We use manufacturing exceution systems (MES) from BARCO. SAP is our ERP partner and we use the following modules:
- Finance and control
- Materials management
- Production planning
- Plant maintenance
- Quality management
- Sales and distribution.
- Business intelligence and enterprise portal
We use Microsoft's products for our infrastructure, including: - MS Exchange Server
- MS Share Point Portal Server
- MSLive Communication Server
We will be shortly implementing the IS-Retail and IS-AFS modules from SAP.
- Has manpower been a problem area?
Attracting and retaining talent in an end-user organisation is always a challenge. By creating multiple learning and growth opportunities coupled with competitive pay packages, we have been able to keep attrition rate below the industry rate. - What are the areas of application that remain to be addressed?
Our retail operations are yet to see large-scale technology deployments, though we have a clear roadmap in front of us. HR, SRM and SEM are other areas we will focus on a bit later. - What are your recommendations for making the current technology more manufacturer/brand/retailer-friendly?
Try and adopt standard products as much as possible. Assess the width and depth of your requirements clearly. Integration is more important to us than best-of-breed in a certain part of the entire domain. Have the ability to realign your processes to meet with the requirements of the product, rather than tinker with the product through customisation. Ensure that your central infrastructure is in place first, before you embark on any deployment journey, and is scalable and reliable, with adequate redundancy built in.
