After Grofers, PepperTap to target tier II cities

After making their presence felt in the metro cities, hyperlocal grocery delivery startups are eyeing tier II cities as the next battlegrounds.
Early this month, on-demand hyperlocal startup Grofers expanded to tier II markets with the launch of services in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
“We wanted to enter the tier II markets and therefore have launched in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow as we see them as highly promising markets,” Sharad Harjai, AVP Marketing, Grofers, told Indiaretailing.
Just like Grofers, Gurgaon-based mobile first hyperlocal grocery delivery, PepperTap, also recently announced that it is expanding into tier II markets, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Kolkata.
The company has tied up with about 25 grocers in each of these cities. The company received a Series-A funding of USD 10 million from SAIF Partners and Sequoia Capital recently, which it is using for expansion and to hire skilled resources.
The company is employing well-etched marketing strategies, using a perfect blend of on-ground activations, digital marketing and a strong ATL reach. Introductory offers will also be a part of its strategy to attract more customers.Further, PepperTap plans to foray into the high-potential markets of Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru next.
