Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani launches E-Dhaga NHDC mobile app

Keeping in view the Digital India Initiative of Government of India, National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC) has developed a mobile app for the benefit of the handloom weavers.
The ‘E Dhaga app’ was launched by the Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani on Monday in a programme organized at Handloom Haat, Janpath in presence of Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta.
Textiles Minister Irani in her address stated that the app seeks to address concerns of individual weavers such as availability of raw material, delays in supplies and ensuring stocks in depots. She congratulated NHDC and its team for taking up the development of the app in a very short time.
Minister of State Ajay Tamta highlighted that the app will enhance the transparency. Secretary Textiles, Rashmi Verma emphasised on the need to engage weavers to use the app which is very user friendly. She informed the gathering that the app will be a handy tool in the hands of the weavers and society to transact business with NHDC.
Development Commissioner of Handlooms Alok Kumar also highlighted the benefits of this app. Managing Director NHDC, S Srinivas indicated in his address that the lead time will be reduced considerably by using this app.
A live demo was also conducted during the launch event, which was attended by the handloom weavers of various states who also downloaded the app. The app is quite useful for the handloom weavers to transact business anytime anywhere and can send their indents and payments online by this app. The weavers can also access the status of the shipment of the dispatched material thereby enhancing the transparency.
The app at present is available in Hindi, English and Telugu and will also be available in other languages such as Bengali, Oriya, Assamese and Urdu by January 15, 2017. To give boost to the Digital India initiative, NHDC will accept all the payments through RTGS/NEFT or Digital Mode from December 19, 2016 onwards and will place latest three months yarn procurement of societies from NHDC in public domain.
