Boycott Chinese goods during this festive season campaign on social media has witnessed about 45 percent decline in demand of Chinese items by retailers from wholesalers this year, says an estimation of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The assumption is based on inputs received from 20 distribution cities of different states.
On the contrary, traditional earthen and clay items expect a modest sale this Diwali, CAIT said.
Sales of Chinese products including crackers, series of electric bulbs, kitchen appliances, toys, gift items, electric fittings and electronic consumables, home decoration items, gift articles, pictures of Idols etc will have to prominently suffer ire of the decline in demands, said CAIT.
“Due to the strong social media campaign around boycotting Chinese goods, retailers seem quite careful in building inventory for Diwali festival and it has led to a decline of about 45 percent in demand of these items in comparison to the last year,” National President, B C Bhartia and Secretary General, Praveen Khandelwal said.
Undoubtedly India is a big market for Chinese products and over the years import of toys, furniture, building hardware, crackers, lighting and electric fittings, furnishing fabric,office stationary, electronic appliances, consumer electronics, kitchen equipment & appliances, gift items, watches etc from China has increased to a great extent.
Chinese products are generally low in price having availability in bulk coupled with different variety is the root cause of infiltration of Chinese goods in the Indian market, the report said.
The body further said that beside international issues of importance, many other incidental issues are attached to it and it has to be looked in totality and not in isolation. China is one of the major investors in India.
