Indians use e-commerce sites more than others; says study

A survey conducted by American Express and Nielsen say that Indians use the Internet to access the shopping sites more than social networking and others.

In a survey named ‘Understanding Online Consumers,’ American Express and Nielsen  studied the patterns of cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. The figures said 98 per cent for online shopping and 96 per cent for Social networking

The study also revealed that deal and discounts hypothesis attract Indian consumers to shop online. Even if not a regular shopper, 60 per cent people hook on to the shopping sites during festivals when they offer heavy discount.

40 per cent people prefer online as there are cash back offers, 38 per cent go for discount coupons, freebies and additional offers report 35 per cent as per the survey.

It is also recorded that men clothing at 57 per cent and footwear at 53 per cent are the most purchased products online. 51 per cent goes to mobile and tablets online specially consumers living in the metros whereas the figure goes down to 37 per cent for the Tier I cities.

On an average, Indians spend around Rs 9,400 on online products which is expected to rise upto Rs 16,000 in the cities; the survey analysed.
