Puma, Adidas to start e-com portals in India

and , the sports goods makers from Germany, are seeking permission from the Indian government to open their own e-commerce portals in the country.

A new law in India allows single-brand overseas retailers to sell online as well in India

They are the first among foreign companies to take advantage of the change in law that allowed single-brand overseas retailers to sell online as well in India.

Both Puma and Adidas filed applications with the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) this month. DIPP is the nodal agency for foreign direct investment in India.

In November 2015, the Indian government had relaxed the rules for FDI in retail. The new rules allow manufacturers to sell their products through wholesale, retail and e-commerce channels as well for the first time.
