Must Read

Following on the heels of a successful launch in Mumbai recently, Bengaluru-based online foodservice marketplace Swiggy has expanded its services to Pune on July 21st.
The company raised Rs.105 crore in Series B round of funding last month to expand  services to 12 cities, including Mumbai, Chennai and Pune. At present, it operates in Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Delhi and Hyderabad.
Swiggy operates around the concept of delivering food from the best restaurants in a neighbourhood to the customer’s doorstep. “Pune is a vibrant city with a huge cosmopolitan populace. We would like to provide customers best choices from an extensive range of restaurants and cuisines, for varying culinary preferences. Having secured success in other regions, we want our service to reach the people of Pune now,”  Nandan Reddy, co-founder, Swiggy said on the sidelines of the Pune launch.
Unlike Zomato, which accepts orders only on behalf of restaurants, Swiggy maintains a fleet of delivery personnel who pick up orders from restaurants and deliver them to customers.Swiggy has about 80 Delivery Executives and a 100+ restaurants on board in Wakad, Aundh, Baner and Pimpri-Saudagar areas of Pune.
In order to beef up its delivery fleet abilities, Swiggy recently partnered with Mumbai Dabbawalas to train its delivery staff. Dabbawalas were invited to give a presentation on how they ensure efficiency and accuracy of their logistics system, from packaging meals to training new dabbawalas, and even how to deal with emergency situations. This was done through an interactive session between the dabbawalas and Swiggy’s own delivery boys
To announce the launch of its operations in Pune, Swiggy had offered more than 5000 Vada Paavs at INR 1 each to prospective customers on July 18th and 19th .
