Simba Toys India, a part of the German toy maker Simba Dickie Group, is planning to expand to 30-40 stores in India by 2016. The company is operating five retail stores at present. Simba Dickie Group is one of the top five players in the industry and has manufacturing units in countries, including Germany, France and Thailand.
The chain entered the Indian market in 2009 through a wholly-owned subsidiary Simba Toys India.
“In the last five years, we have grown at an impressive rate of around 20 per cent, even as the overall market has shown a modest CAGR of around 10 per cent. Going forward, we are looking at around 60 per cent of our stores in non-metro locations. Simba has a strategy to build a hub-and-spoke model with regular stores spread out amongst metros, tier II and III towns and 5-8 flagship stores in the top cities forming the hub,” says Narayan Sabharwal, Business Head, Simba Toys.
Currently, Simba’s in-house brands include Majorette, Steffi Love, Squap and Back to school range, amongst others and contribute to about 70 per cent of its sales in India.
With a host of international movie licenses in its kitty, more than 6500 SKUs to choose from, The Simba Store outlets offer traditional toys to electronic games, plush toys to educational ones, covering a TG that includes all age groups from toddlers to teenagers.
