Anil Chandhok of Chenab Impex felicitated by French Government

Anil Chandhok, CEO & President, Chenab Impex Pvt. Ltd, the Mumbai-based importer of gourmet food products, has been honoured by the French government with a knighthood. He joins the ranks of exceptional Indians and luminaries to be accorded the title of Chevalier (Knight) by the French Republic. Notable awardees in the past include eminent scientists Louis Pasteur of France and MS Swaminathan of India.
The award is given by The Order of Agricultural Merit (Ordre du Mérite Agricole), which was instituted by the French Government in 1883 and is bestowed for outstanding contribution to Agriculture and Food industry. The honour, coveted and well valued by the food & agriculture industry worldwide, is extended to people who have rendered exceptional services to French Food and Agriculture whether in public duties or in the very practice of agriculture or food business. It is also accorded to those who have distinguished themselves in the field of scientific research.
The award for Chandhok comes in recognition of his pioneering role in introducing a wide range of premium French foods to India both to the retail consumer as well as the Hotel/Restaurant industry. His company began importing French foods in 2003 with the imports of the world famous Delouis Mustards, followed in 2004 by dried wild forest mushrooms from Borde & typical French Olives from Barnier (2005). Today it has expanded rapidly to import a large and varied range of gourmet foods, from 17 leading French food producers.
The company has also recently launched a Wines & Spirits division, hoping to parlay its success in foods to wines and spirits. The company has had its first consignment comprising the famous Cotes-du-Rhone wines from the leader in this appellation Cellier-des-dauphins, arrive recently to India.
Chandhok received the award from the hands of H.E. Francois Richier, Ambassador of France.
