Aditya Birla Retail Mulls Expansion of ‘More’ Chain

A mega expansion is on cards for Aditya Birla Retail Limited (ABRL), the owner and operator of ‘More’ chain of hypermarket?s? and supermarkets. Already operating 15 More hypermarkets and 4?83 More supermarkets in over 60 cities pan India, ABRL is now looking to increase its nationwide footprint by opening two hypermarkets in the current fiscal, and plans to add up to five doors under the format, next year. Moreover, it is also mulling to open around 75 stores under supermarket format in 2015.
ABRL has registered high like-to-like double digit growth over the past two years. During the year 2014, it added one hypermarket and three supermarkets to its national store network. The last few years have seen the retailer focus on the development of its private brand portfolio as well, whereby it has launched a number of products under own label in categories ranging from food, home and personal care, apparel and footwear. Significantly, More Megastores are the first ever food and grocery retailer in India to be awarded FSMS certification (ISO 22000:2005), gaining worldwide acceptance for its food safety measures.
Aditya Birla Retail, the retail arm of $40 billion Aditya Birla Group, forayed into food and grocery (F&G) retail trade in 2007. ?With nearly 19 lakh sq. ft. of total retail area to its credit today?, the company has achieved the distinction of being one of the three leading value retail players in India.
