Spencer’s Retail launches 7th hyper store in Kolkata

Spencer’s Retail Limited, a multi-brand and multi-format retailer, launched its hypermarket in the North Kolkata, located at Club Town Heights, BT Road which is its 7th hyper store in the city.
Speaking at the launch, Shashwat Goenka, Sector Head – Spencer’s Retail Limited said, “Organised retail is geared for a very healthy growth in 2015.  We plan to fully support the make-in-India policy of the Government and back it up with a make-in-Bengal strategy, which means agricultural products from Bengal, as also fruits and fishes, will receive a special push at all Spencer’s stores, including the one to be opened on the 17th Jan, 12 noon at BT Road.”
Spread over 25,000 sq. ft., the store offers a wide range and assortment of merchandise in food and grocery, fresh fruits and vegetables, home and office essentials, electrical and electronic products, personal care and fashionwear for both men, women and kids, all available at affordable prices.  The store also offers Fish and Meat, Spencer’s Patisserie – a live bakery, Dairy, chilled and frozen products and a wide variety of food take-away options that promise to gratify every consumer’s shopping requirement.
Some specific assortment – popular among Bengali households – include Miniket, Baskati, Gobindobhog, Dudehshwar and Tulaipanji rice, Masoor, Sona Moong and Chholar dal, postadana and panchphoran among spices, mustard oil, gava ghee & jaggery. In fruits & vegetables, Orange Darjeeling, Lemon Gondhoraaj, Peeled Banana Flower, Raw Papaya, Onion Flower, Local Green Peas would be available at the most competitive prices. Festive assortment would include vegetable basket (Kalai/Gota Siddho) comprising Brinjal, Potato Baby, Sem, Green Peas, Palak Buds and green chilli.
At the 8th COCA COLA GOLDEN SPOON AWARDS Spencer’s was honoured with the title ‘IMAGES Most Admired Food & Grocery Retailer of the Year’ for bringing in efficiencies across retail operations- Effective IT Application, Supplier’s Chain Management, Merchandising, Marketing & Promotions, Customer Service, Human Resource Policies/Initiatives etc. Spencer’s boosted its most critical factor – billing speed (seconds / item) by 40% — going from 25 to 15 seconds — in the last 10 months. And it did this through a 360 degree efficiency approach.
It launched a mobile application to allow shoppers to check out best deals in their favourite Spencer’s store, create a shopping list and search for products. The app has special features for CRM program members like check your points balance, a suggested shopping list built on last 3 months’ shopping history, request for missed rewards, etc.
It also introduced a Mystery Shopping program on all critical customer touch points in store. In 6 months the average score of Spencer’s Hypers improved from 53 to 76 out of 100.
