Privilege Clubs(India Retail Forum), (India Food Forum) Niren Chaudhary joined Yum! India as the Managing Director in 2007 and was elevated as President of Yum! Restaurants India. He has been a part of Yum! brands since 1994 and has a rich experience of almost two decades working with the company at various positions across different geographies. His previous roles within the organisation were as General Manager of KFC Netherlands and Germany and as the Operations Director for Pizza Hut and KFC in India.
Before joining Yum! Brands, Chaudhary worked with Tata Administrative Service for eight years, where he worked for nearly five different Tata companies in two years, and finally chose the Indian Hotels Company.
A strong advocate of hands-on leadership, Chaudhary devotes significant time each year in training the company’s management and franchisees on achieving breakthrough results. He believes in visualising the roles one plays and constantly innovating oneself to add greater value across roles and functions. His philosophy for success is about marrying the visions and principles of the company with that of its employees, creating opportunities for an environment that enables the growth of individuals to contribute significantly to that of the company and vice-versa.
He is deeply associated with the Yum! Academy, which is part of organisation’s “Growth with a big heart” agenda. He also drives Yum! Restaurants India’s employment programme for the specially-abled (hearing and speech impaired) under Yum!’s flagship brand, KFC.
Under Chaudhary’s stewardship, Yum! India has made significant strides and at the end of 2011, Yum! India business was separated to create a standalone reporting division to underscore the potential scale of its exciting emerging market. He has established a highly successful business model to accelerate aggressive future growth. Under his leadership Yum! India Restaurants has grown almost three times in size in terms of number of restaurants in the last five years and is expected to have 2,000 restaurants in India by 2020.
“We plan to open 1,000 restaurants during the year-end 2015 and look forward to establish 2,000 restaurants in India in the year 2020,” he says.
In March 2013, the Yum! India team received the Presidential award from India’s President Pranab Mukherjee for their outstanding performance as an employer of people with disabilities. Yum! was awarded with the ‘Food Supply Chain Company of the Year’ by Supply Chain Leadership Council. Yum!’s QSR brand, KFC was awarded ‘Coca-Cola Golden Spoon Award’ for the ‘Most Admired Food Service Retailer of the Year’ category in 2011, it was also featured as the most trusted brand in the retail sector by the Brand Trust Report, India Study 2012.
Himself a multiple award winner, Chaudhary has under his belt honours such as the ET Responsible Retailer award for Yum!. He also acquired the NCPEDP – Shell Helen Keller Award 2010 for companies which believe in equal rights and gainful employment for persons with disabilities.
Chaudhary is an alumnus of St Stephen’s College and an MBA graduate from Faculty of Management Studies.
