“For FY14, a sum of Rs 10 crore will be invested towards expansion of Maiya’s restaurants through 20 franchise models in Bangalore and Delhi,” reveals P. Sadananda Maiya, promoter of Maiyas Beverages and Foods Pvt Ltd, (MBFPL),  a Food Processing/FMCG company. This year’s agenda also includes a maiden presence in a highway food court (in Kolar, Karnataka), which is modeled on the lines of international food courts.

Maiya’s in suburb Jayanagar is a full scale operation, complete with lunch, dinner and a mithai-namkeen takeaway section, and kiosks at the Kempegowda International Airport and at IT companies. The restaurant serves north and south Indian food, and has kiosk at the Kempegowda International Airport and at IT companies. The brand has made further inroads into the city through its franchise models called Express, which offer a snacks counter and a self-service wing.

While the flavours of the restaurant waft along the city, Maiya is keen to promote his range of Instant Food Mixes, Masalas, Milk Beverages, Ready-to-Eat food products and Frozen Foods in India and overseas locations like USA, Australia, Singapore and Germany. Both the restaurant business and
product range are expected to boost the company’s business. This summer, Maiya plans to launch tinned versions of cold coffee and milkshakes through a distribution network.

“MBFPL plans to increase revenues from an expected Rs 90 crore in FY14 to Rs 1,000 crore in five years. The growth will be led by the product range,
exports and the restaurants with franchise models,” adds Sadananda Maiya, who is also a food technologist. “The revenue break up would be attributed
to snacks and exports, which amounts to Rs 400 crore, frozen foods would be Rs 200 crore, and the remaining would come from the restaurants.”

To meet this target, the company will scale up operations by expanding the existing 10 acre plant to 20 acres. The 1.90 lakh sqft automated plant
processes food categories like spices, ready-to-eat, mixes, masalas, sweets, snacks and frozen foods. While frozen vadas have already become a success, the next product in the pipeline will be frozen rasmalais.
