Zodiac computes expansions

Mumbai-based Zodiac Clothing Company Limited (ZCCL) plans to have 300 exclusive stores operational across the country by 2008 end. ZCCL, which owns brands like Zodiac and ZOD!, received the approval from its board to open at least 30 stores every year to have a wider presence across the country.

Speaking to Indiaretailing, Salman Noorani, MD, ZCCL, informed: “ZCCL is aggressively growing its own retail stores; in fact we have an approval from our board to open 30 stores every year. By 2008 end ZCCL expects to have 300 EBOs operational across the country. Meanwhile, ZOD! will also have a remarkable share of outlets, which are planned in the year ahead.”

In February 2002, ZCCL entered into the clubwear segment with the launch of ZOD!. At present, the brand is retailed through six exclusive stores, 45 Zodiac stores and 350 multi-brand outlets including Shoppers’ Stop, Lifestyle, Piramyd and Globus.

Speaking about the sales contribution across various zones, Noorani said: “Albeit, ZOD! is available in major cities, majority of sales happens in tier I cities across the country. Tier I cities across North and West zones are the best markets for ZOD! followed by South and then East.”

ZCCL makes seven million shirts per annum through its factories in Karnataka, Gujarat and Dubai. The company registered a 49.66 per cent growth resulting in net profit worth Rs 44.3 million for the quarter ended September 2007 as compared to a profit of Rs 29.6 million for the quarter ended September 2006.
