Six Senses Spa, a name that is synonymous with being a high end destination for those seeking wellness as a way of life, opened its doors in India in 2012. Spread across 450 acres at Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida, the property is as massive as it is exquisite. About an hours drive away from South Delhi, Greater Noida welcomes one with its smooth silky roads and lush green surroundings. On reaching the resort, I was greeted by the vivacious and ever beautiful Tracey Poole who is the Spa Director of Six Senses Spa at Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort. Over a glass of delicous cold coffee with ice cream and lots of interesting conversation with Poole, at the spacious yet cozy coffee shop done up in shades of turquoise, suitably called Eggspectation, a buggy ferried me to the spa. Quiet, green and aesthetic, I closed my eyes to be one with nature and frankly, I didn’t anticipate that the ride was only the beginning of a heightened sensorial experience waiting to happen just for me. Occupying a three storey building, Six Senses Spa at Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort, is spread over 70,000 sq ft. It’s a true testament to the Six Senses’ philosophy of sustainability – from the choice of materials and design features to the organic garden, which provides a rich collection of herbs, fruits and flowers as ingredients for the healthy refreshments and locally-inspired treatments and spa experiences. The journey begins the moment one steps inside and breathes in lemongrass which transports one’s mind to the distant shores of the Far East.
Dr Avinash R Twari, a well-known and able Ayurvedic Doctor, asked me a couple of pertinent questions about my lifestyle and tailored a session as per my body type. Then came up the filling up of a questionnaire and while chanting a mantra in Sanskrit, the good doctor, took my pulse.
As per Ayurveda, all living and non-living beings are made up of five elements- space , air, fire water and earth. One cannot see these elements but can only undersatnd them by what they do in our body. Present in our body in the form of three entities called Doshas, they are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. He proclaimed my body type to be Pitta, that is, a Combination of a water and fire.
Based on this insight and consecutive assessment, I was recommended the Soul of Six Senses therapies, which was a combination of the De-stress Four Hands Massage, a foot bath and a facial cleansing ritual.
I felt light and relaxed on the inside and out. There was a glow on my face and absolutely no trace of dark circles or tanning of any sort. This was my first encounter with Ayurveda and I was surprised to see its positive effect on me in merely one session. Before changing, I was served a platter of cold fruits – mangoes, kiwi, guavas, pineappe and watermelons. Suffice it to say that the Six Senses Spa at Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort is nothing short of a body temple. Through the marvelous therapies, one is made to realise and connect with one’s own body and its workings in a scientific way, while being indulgent, they ensure that you look after yourself in order to lead a healthy and zestful life. Membership is available to corproartes and individuals, too.
