Toys R Us to work more with EBay

Must Read

Toys R Us Inc TOY.UL, the world’s largest toy retailer, plans to work more with EBay Inc (EBAY.O) following the e-commerce company’s recent acquisition of GSI Commerce, Toys R Us Chief Executive Jerry Storch said on Tuesday.

"We know we can go further with EBay," Storch told the Reuters Consumer and Retail Summit. "They have more skills and offerings."

EBay bought GSI in June for $2.4 billion. GSI helps several big retailers run their websites and broader e-commerce efforts. The deal is a way for EBay to win more major sellers as clients, beyond its original Marketplace auction business.

Storch said Toys R Us is probably GSI’s largest customer. GSI helps run the retailer’s website and has prevented the site from crashing even as heavy traffic and transactions pass through it, he said.

"We’re a very big partner of EBay’s now, through this marital transaction," Storch said.

He did not specify what else Toys R Us will do with EBay but suggested he was happy with the EBay-GSI deal. Toys R Us will do "some exciting things" with the e-commerce company, he said.
