Sainsbury lands Ocado man in online drive

Must Read

J Sainsbury has landed a new boss for its online business from internet specialist Ocado and created a position overseeing digital strategy, as Britain’s retailers jostle for position in fast-growing e-commerce markets.

The country’s third-biggest supermarket group said on Thursday that Jon Rudoe would join on July 11 as director of its online business from Ocado, where he was head of retail, responsible for marketing, website and products.

Rudoe will replace Tanya Lawler, who is taking up a new role as director of digital operations.

The appointments follow similar moves at other retailers as they seek to tap rapid growth in internet sales and offset a more sluggish performance in their stores.

This month, Tesco , Britain’s biggest retailer, named Matt Atkinson as group digital marketing officer, while clothing and foods group Marks & Spencer poached Laura Wade-Gery from Tesco in February to head its internet expansion.
