Mothercare to open 70 stores in India

Britain’s leading retailer, Mothercare Plc, said it will open 70 stores in India by March 2011, growing to at least 200 by March 2015.
 
Mothercare, which operates in India through a joint venture with New Delhi-based real estate firm DLF Ltd as well as through a franchisee arrangement Shopper’s Stop Ltd, said it now expected total overseas network sales to double to around £1bn by 2014. The group issued new guidance to coincide with an investor and analyst event in New Delhi.
 
The company plans to increase its overseas retail space by 15-20 per cent per annum and plans to add 175 new overseas stores in the current financial year.
