Pinelabs secures PCI certification for safe online payments

Must Read

For retailers, credit or debit card processing has traditionally been done using PSTN, GPRS and CDMA mediums at the PC-POS (point of sale) in a superstore. Today, most can leverage broadband connections for enabling payments at checkout. Pine Labs, which facilitates online debit/credit processing and offers retail automation solutions, obtained the PCI PA-DSS version 1.2 network certification from PCI for ‘Plutus Secure’ software, and its solution — Plutus Secure — is now PCI PA-DSS certified, a first-of-its-kind for India.

There are myriad advantages of utilising broadband as a medium for online financial transactions. With broadband, the online payments become highly efficient (consumes less time), accrues cost savings (one broadband connection can be used for various checkout terminals) and secure (provides end-to-end security and complete data encryption, certified by PCI).

Plutus secure can eliminate the need for EDC devices and can be easily integrated with any billing applications. The PCI PA-DSS certified Plutus Secure is considered to be highly reliable and secure. “We have already bagged 10 clients, who have completed or would be completing pilot test with their banks soon,” says Dev Sharma, VP, Pine Labs.

Earlier, banks would not allow any clearance using broadband or using internet connections, stating it as risky and vulnerable to internet fraud. With the acquired certification the transactions would be allowed on internet platform.

Sharma is also confident of powering at least one lakh POS with Plutus by the end of the current financial year. Interestingly, Plutus is also a default front-end for other products by Pine Labs, i.e. Nova Loyalty, Prepaid and Gift Cards and Mobiles, and Utillity Payment Services such as eTop-up, Bill Payment, Flight Booking and Railway Bookings.
