Duncans enters premium category with 2 Darjeeling tea variants

In an attempt to enter premium tea category, Kolkata-based Rs 20 billion Duncan-Goenka Group’s brand Duncans Tea has launched two Darjeeling tea variants — Duncans Darjeeling Tea and Indian Treasure.

Commenting on the development, MC Appaiah, COO, Duncans Tea said, “Duncans hopes to capture five per cent market share in the Darjeeling tea category.”

Duncans Darjeeling Tea is priced at Rs 120 for 250 gram, while Indian Treasure is priced at Rs 85 for 100 gram. The tea market in India is valued at Rs 100 billion and domestic consumption of Darjeeling tea is valued at Rs 500 million.

Duncan Goenka Group is today highly diversified with 20 operating companies and its tea variants give turnover is Rs 1.8 billion. Other brands of the group include Runglee Rungliot, Sargam and Shakti.
