Lohia launches e-bikes; to enter warehouse retailing soon

Lohia Auto Industries (LAI), the electric vehicles manufacturing and retailing unit of Lohia Group, has launched two models of electric bikes at India International Trade Fair (IITF) being held in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

With the launch of two models branded ‘Fame’ and ‘Oma’, the company has marked its presence in the two wheeler electric vehicles market of India and plans to add three new models by mid-2009.

VK Gupta, president, LAI, said, “The trade fair is a platform to showcase our product on a wide canvas, for millions of people from across the country and abroad who are visiting this mega trading event, which result in excellent brand awareness.”

Speaking to Indiaretailing about retailing of LAI products, Gupta said, “We will open exclusive showrooms as well as we are tying up with other auto dealers for retailing our products across India. In northern India we target 32 dealers, which will be 150 across India by next Diwali.”

“The two models will be available in the market by mid-December this year and we target selling 15-20 thousand pieces in the next three months. By 2010, we target selling around 1 lakh pieces,” added Gupta.

Elaborating the further expansion plan, Gupta said, “We are entering the retail market in home décor and warehousing segment and are partnering with international brands also.” However, he refused to give details on the same.
