Priyagold opens 175 kiosks at railway stations

Surya Food & Agro Ltd, a Delhi-based company which owns the Priyagold biscuit brand, has extended its retail operation to railway stations opening 175 kiosks in different railway stations of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Gujarat and Rajasthan and is earning around Rs 40 lakh every month from these stores.

The company has also planned to add another 175 kiosks by February 2009 to touch the 350 stores mark and expects over Rs 1 crore from its retail operations adding to the total revenue growth of the company by 30 percent.

Elaborating this development, Shekhar Agarwal, director, Surya Food & Agro Ltd, said, “We have taken permission from Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for opening 350 kiosks in different railway stations across the country and 175 of them are already operational, which have been set up on the franchise model.”

“At present, we are selling our company-owned biscuits, cakes, juices, packaged water through these kiosks and will add chocolates by November this year,” added Agarwal.

The company has in its kitty brands like ‘Priyagold’ for biscuits, ‘Freshgold’ for fruit juices and “Treat’ for fruit drinks.
