Dubai-based real estate developer ‘Nakheel Properties’ has recently announced its plan to emerge as one of the largest shopping mall developers in the world by 2018.
According to a company spokesperson, Nakheel will soon start developing around 13 million square feet of retail space across five major locations including Palm Jumeirah, Palm Mall on Palm Deira, Ibn Battuta Mall phase II, India Mart and Great Mall Dubai.
“Nakheel Retail Shopping Malls, the division of Nakheel properties, will be the largest shopping mall developer, owner and manager in the Middle East by 2012 and will be one of the largest in the world by 2018,” added the source.
It has also planned to develop around 250 hotels in Dubai, which would be a 50 per cent increase on the current number.
