Indian retail records 30 per cent net employment

Must Read

The Indian wholesale and retail sector has demonstrated a Net Employment Outlook of 30 per cent in Q3 2008, said the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey (MEOS).

The results of the survey are derived from responses collected from HR heads of top retail chains and brands. Out of total employers surveyed, only one per cent reported a decrease in hiring, while the rest anticipated an increase or no change in the hiring intent.

“Although the industry is booming, hiring intent has softened in Q3 as compared to Q1 and Q2. This can be attributed to uncertainty in some of the leading economies across the world resulting in volatility in equity markets, commodity prices, and exchange rates. However, the retail sector seems to be the next big thing in India for aspiring candidates,” said Dr Naresh Malhan, managing director, Manpower India.
