Reliance Timeout goes green on books

Must Read

Relaince Timeout, the book and music retailing format of Reliance Retail, has tied up with TERI Press, the publishing arm of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), to introduce its brand new series of children’s books focussed on environmental issues.

The books, published under TERI Press’ children’s imprint Terrapin, are being launched at the Reliance Timeout outlet at Ambience Mall in Gurgaon, and will be followed by a Bengaluru launch. The company has also planned to introduce the concept at its Reliance Fresh outlets across the country.

Terrapin books are being produced under the aegis of Dr RK Pachauri, director general, TERI, and head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), joint winners of the Nobel Peace Prize 2007 with former US Vice President Al Gore.

Speaking of the launch, Deepinder Kapany, head of Reliance TimeOut, said: “It is important we sensitise all children towards the environment. We are proud to partner TERI for these activities, which will touch both privileged and underprivileged children.”

Explaining the rationale behind the children’s book imprint, Dr Pachauri said, “It is really in the hands of children to try to change their own lives toward greater protection of the environment and all our natural resources. I hope those who read these books will not only enjoy them greatly, but also feel inspired to implement actions that are described in these pages, so that we create a beautiful, peaceful and healthy future for the human race.”

An environment quiz, titled ‘The Green Genius Quiz’, was also organised at the store. The quiz featured teams from top schools at Delhi who fought for the title of ‘TERI Mini-Environmentalist’. Underprivileged children from the city had also participated in a poster painting competition called ‘The Green Canvas’ at the venue.
