Kerala government to open hypermarkets

Must Read

C Divakaran, minister for civil supplies, Kerala, said that the state government has planned to open hypermarkets in Kochi and Thiruvananthpuram as part of its endeavour to take on the retail giants and thus keep a check on the price rise of commodities.

Laying the foundation stone for the first hypermarket, being set up by Supplyco, (The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation) in Kochi, the Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan said that the Central government, through its flawed farm and retail market policies, is adding to the aggravation of market fluctuations. This initiative by the State government is to keep prices under control through effective market intervention.

“The Central government policies have unleashed a reign of retail outlets controlled by Indian and multinational companies who are here with an eye on profit alone. The government is ready to take up the challenge through the public sector retail outlets, which are being strengthened,” said the Chief Minister.
